In 2011, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), through a landmark collaborative effort with the Pacific Behavioral Health Collaborating Council (PBHCC), initiated a workforce development project aimed at building a cadre of qualified trainers for the Pacific Region. Since that time, this collaborative effort has not only provided significant training and workforce related outcomes, it has also increased the ability of the PBHCC to develop and manage a range of projects across the Pacific thus having a regional impact.

What developed is now a Pacific-wide service and administrative capability that can be brought to bear in a number of pressing areas from infrastructure development to Block Grant applications and management. Indeed, the PBHCC now refers to our mutual effort as the "Pacific Behavioral Health Initiative" as it more accurately describes the range of possibilities for our collaboration into the future.‚Äč
